Project Description

As part of the Fanar project, the Al-Qarara Cultural Trail was launched in

the presence of the European Union Representative to Palestine, Mr.

Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, the Mayor of Al-Qarara, Engineer Ahmed

Sha'at, and the Executive Director of the Youth Without Borders Forum,

Mr. Ayman Abu Rouk.

The 7-kilometer trail included a visit to a section of the area's cultural

and tourist route, featuring numerous stops showcasing various heritage

and natural elements. The journey began at the entrance to farmland on

the Al-Rabai'a road, proceeding to Wadi Awda, then the Al-Qanan area,

well-known to the people of Al-Qarara. The route continued through Al-

Harabat, then to the Seed Bank and the Diwan of Mukhtar Abu Hani

Muhanna (the guesthouse), then to Sheikh Hamouda Hill, known as the

site of a holy man. The route continued through almond groves and

ruins, then to the traditional mud-brick house, finally arriving at the Al-

Qarara Cultural Museum. Participants toured the museum grounds and

viewed the Palestinian heritage and antiquities exhibit. The event

concluded with a traditional Palestinian wedding procession, songs, and

chants performed by children from the museum. The Qarara Cultural

Trail is considered the first trail implemented within the Gaza Strip that

is documented with a GPS system and approved by the Qarara

Municipality. The trail aims to encourage community tourism within the

Palestinian town of Qarara. It is worth mentioning that this trail was

previously marked in cooperation with the Qarara Municipality and the

Qarara Cultural Museum.
