Nourishing Hope:
Community Kitchens for Vulnerable Families in Gaza

Project Description

In partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), Youth Without

Borders (YWB) is implementing Nourishing Hope: Community Kitchens

for Vulnerable Families in Gaza, one of the largest humanitarian food

interventions in Khan Younis.

The project operates six fully equipped community kitchens across East

Khan Younis and is designed to provide daily hot meals to more than

internally displaced individuals (approximately families). By May , YWB

successfully scaled up production to reach over people per day,

exceeding the initial target by .

The project ensures a reliable and dignified food supply chain, from

procurement of raw food items to safe preparation and delivery at camp

distribution points .

More than kitchen and distribution staff have been mobilized and

trained to uphold international food safety, hygiene, and protection

standards The project goes beyond hot meal provision by integrating

High Energy Biscuit (HEB) distributions and a free bread initiative.

Working with vulnerable women and six traditional mud ovens, YWB

produces thousands of loaves daily, addressing bread shortages in

overcrowded shelters while supporting women’s livelihoods .

These complementary efforts ensure balanced nutrition, variety, and

dignity for displaced families living under siege conditions .

This project reflects YWB’s commitment to safeguarding dignity while

meeting immediate humanitarian needs .

By combining large-scale operational capacity with community-centered

approaches, YWB and WFP are ensuring that displaced families in one of

Gaza Strip’s hardest-hit areas amid the ongoing genocide have

consistent access to hot, balanced meals, contributing to both survival

and resilience .
